Q: How do I register for Summer Reading?
A: You can register for Summer Reading through our online component The Great Summer Reading Adventure (http://lcld.northwestreads.org/). You can stop by the library to pick up your Summer Reading Materials. Each library has a designated Summer Reading Computer, where if necessary you can register on site.   In order to participate in Summer Reading (to compete and win prizes) you MUST create an account and log your reading through the Great Summer Reading Adventure.

Q: How many days do I need to read to finish Summer Reading?
A: Read for 45 between the dates of June 1- August 15 to complete Summer Reading and win a prize book. Every 15 days is a milestone.

Q: What do I get for completing a Milestone (each 15 days of reading)?
A: Each branch will acknowledge milestones differently. At Moscow, we will have will have a 15 day and 30 day prize bucket for you to select prizes from, and at 45 days, you will receive a prize book and be entered into grand prize drawings.

Q: How do I track my reading?
A: The Latah County Library District is tracking reading entirely online this summer through the Great Summer Reading Adventure (http://lcld.northwestreads.org/). Stop by your local branch to pick up your registration materials, which includes an event calendar which you can also use to track your reading. Even if you choose to track on your calendar, all of your reading must logged on your Great Summer Reading Adventure account.

Q: What if I don’t have internet access or computer access?
A: Each branch of the Latah County Library District has computers available for public use. Plus, during Summer Reading, we will also have a dedicated computer for you to log your reading!

Q: Can the library log my reading for me on the Great Reading Adventure?
A: The Great Summer Reading Adventure is very easy to use. We encourage you to log your reading yourself. However, if you experience technical difficulties, a staff member may be available to help you.

Q: Do I need to log my reading at the library on event days?
A: No. You can log your reading at any time. If you choose to log your reading/pick up prizes on event days, you may experience longer waits. Our events will begin on time and our staffing is small, so be aware that our registration tables might be unstaffed on event days.

Q: Can I do Summer Reading if I will be out of town this summer?
A: Yes! You can track your reading through the Great Summer Reading Adventure anywhere!

Q: Do I need to register for Summer Reading to participate in Summer Reading Events?
A: No.

Q: Do I need to participate in Summer Reading Events to complete Summer Reading?
A: No. All you need to do to complete Summer Reading is to read for and log 45 days between the dates of June 1 and August 15.

Q: I see the Great Summer Reading Adventure has challenges, badges, events, avatars, secret codes, and more! Do I need to do all of these things to participate in Summer Reading?
A: No. All you need to do to complete Summer Reading is to read for and log 45 days between the dates of June 1 and August 15.
BUT these extra components make Summer Reading even more fun!

Q: What’s the deal with secret codes? How do you get one?
A: Secret codes may be given out at different library events through the summer. These codes can be entered into your Great Summer Reading account to obtain badges and potentially win prizes! If a secret code is being used, it will be prominently displayed at the event.

Q: What’s the deal with badges? How do I get one?
A: Badges are earned electronically through your Great Summer Reading Adventure account (there is no physical badge) for completing various tasks, including reading milestones. By earing badges you *might* receive extra prizes!

Q: Is the library offering fine forgiveness for Summer Reading sign ups this year?
A: Yes! Here are the details:

  • Fines are only forgiven at signup. (only once per summer)
  • Only overdue fines can be forgiven (we will not waive damages or lost item fines).
  • Fines can only be forgiven on minor cards. (card holder under 18).
